Jobs and friends and dancing (oh my!)

Popped out for coffee, dinner and a drink with Greyred on Thursday evening. I got to see her flat which is lovely and completely huge. However I have more furniture in my tiny room than she has in the whole of her 2 bedroom place. Then again, she’s a minimalist and I like the pretty coloured clutter that is becoming the trademark of the places I call my home. Her bedroom is gorgeous though. Enough of a reason to take such a big flat even when you don’t need all the space. It has a sloped roof as it’s on the top floor and a floor to high ceiling window with a view overlooking the church and graveyard. My little head was turning it into a oasis of faux gothic splendour before I’d been there 30 seconds. Apparently there is more of my mum in me than I previously thought! Unfortunately I had to cut the evening a bit short as I felt absolutely shocking. The cold I’ve had for 2 weeks now was really giving me some trouble. I’d like to say that going home early helped. But it didn’t really as I couldn’t sleep and still felt quite bad on Friday. I guess I’ll just have to wait it out.
Interviews this week seemed to go OK. I was supposed to hear on Friday from them both, but only heard about one which was Oilennium and was a ‘no’. I am naturally disappointed, but only an idiot would think it likely that they would be hired on their first week of trying in this economic climate. It helps that I know a little about the guy who got the job. He is the IT tech of my cousins husband. Believe me, the scariest thing about all this is the demonstrable evidence of how small Norwich is! Anyway, the guy would be cheaper than me to run as he is younger and has less general experience. He does have more web experience than me though. All in all he’s a better fit for the role. Hopefully next time round the better fit will be me. It’s a very competative market.
I decided to drown my sorrows not in drink but in Salsa, and went dancing again on Friday. I met a few more people and had a good time. I didn’t stay too late-I was back around midnight, but slept well because I was physically tired. Went for a lovely pub lunch with A in the afternoon. There are so many amazing little country pubs. I will only be able to get to them by accompanying people with a car, but am looking forward to the challenge!
Yesterday was my designated laundry day, and did not start well. I packed my laundry into my wheelie case and trundled along to my nearest launderette by way of an Iceland to pick up wash powder. So far so good…except when I got there the launderette had been closed due to vandalism. I had a look at where the others were… Of course they were all in the opposite direction. I had to go back past my house to get to them…it started raining…I began to feel quite sorry for my little self and nearly grabbed a cab to my aunts house to borrow her machine. But lo! I am made of sterner stuff. I pulled myself together. Made my way to the launderette near the hotel I went to a couple of weeks ago for the jazz night and loaded up my machine feeling quite pissed off. There was a nice little cafe opposite so I got myself a latte and some lunch and munched it in the toasty warm launderette while reading my new Aurora Teagarden book that my brother got me for Christmas. I felt much better by this point and enjoyed the rest of my pootley little day. Last night I decided to go to my first ever Ceroc social. I was a bit nervous about going alone, but there was a couple there from my cerocshop class, and so I sat with them. I danced loads. It is strange being a beginner at something again. I don’t know very many of the moves, but because I can follow-due to salsa, most people didn’t seem to work out how very new to it I was. It was an enormous amount of fun. The strange thing was it was in a school hall. As it was their Valentines day ball, they had done it all up. They’d made a lot of effort and it did look very sweet-but it really reminded me of American high school dances in the movies….I kept thinking about things like Carrie and the end of the Buffy movie with the vamp battle in the gym. I know it was done out for val day, but I think it would be great theming for a Halloween dance! I’ll see if I can attach a pic to here.
Anyway, I decided to get the Norwich equivalent of the night bus home. There’s only one route that runs late. It goes from the university to the station and back. My dance was near the uni, so I could use this bus. It was very odd indeed. I was by far the oldest person on the bus. Everyone else was a tipsy uni student. They were all in high spirits and quite noisy…most if them were chatting away in their own language. It was the strangest sound i’ve ever heard. French, German, Japanese, Spanish and English all combining into this joyful, jovial cacopheny.
It was an interesting way to round off my night. Anyhow, I have drinks at the pub tonight, and much research to do for my interview tomorrow. I also have a letter inviting me for an interview with another company the following week as well so at least their still coming in! I need to get some more apps off this week. I saw one job ad on Friday that’s worth a try.
Wish me luck.
Blessed Be to you and yours.
